Open Verdict is a detective mystery game for iPhone and Android. You read the case file, examine the evidence and question the suspects yourself, then name the killer and attach the proof. There are 62 murder mysteries across Victorian London, the 1920s, the 1970s, the present day and a cyberpunk future. ### Is Open Verdict free? Yes. Open Verdict is free to download and free to play. Every new player gets 50 free questions to ask any suspect anything, and twelve cases can be played with prepared lines, no questions required. Optional in-app purchases add more questions. Accusing a suspect never costs anything. ### Can I type my own questions to the suspects? Yes. In every case you can type any question in your own words, and the suspect answers in character, live. They deflect, get defensive and lie, and you catch the killer in their own contradictions. Suggested questions are there whenever you want them. ### How is it different from other detective games? Most detective games give you a list of questions to pick from. In Open Verdict you are never limited to one: you can ask anything, put evidence on the table, and quote one suspect to another. Every case is a whodunit you solve by noticing what does not add up. ### Does Open Verdict use AI? Yes. When you play live, each suspect's answer is written in the moment by Anthropic's Claude, playing that character from a case file we wrote. The AI can deflect, lie and crack, but it cannot change the facts of the case. Cases marked No questions required can also be played with prepared lines, written in advance. ### What does a question cost? Each answer a suspect gives you live uses one question, whether you type it or tap a suggestion. Prepared lines never use questions, and opening a case, accusing and the verdict are always free. ### Can the suspects talk out loud? Yes. In a voiced case every suspect answers you out loud, with real emotion in their voice. Every player gets one voiced case free. Voiced answers are in English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. ### Is it on iPhone and Android? Yes. Open Verdict is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and on Google Play for Android. ### How long does a case take? Most cases take 15 to 30 minutes. A short training case with Captain Reeves teaches the basics first. ### Can I replay a case? Yes. 56 of the 62 cases have more than one version, each with a different culprit, so a case you have solved can play out differently the next time. ### Are new cases added? Yes. New cases arrive regularly, and seasonal packs such as Gothic Case Files for Halloween stay in the game for good once they arrive. ### What languages is it in? English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, including the suspects’ written live answers and the recorded voices. ### Who is it for? Players 13 and older who enjoy murder mysteries, whodunits, crime fiction, interactive fiction and figuring out who is lying.
